August 31 marks International Overdose Awareness Day
This year is its 25th, and the theme behind it says something worth sitting with: still needed.
Behind every overdose statistic is a person. Someone's kid, sibling, coworker, friend. And behind every loss is a ripple that reaches families, workplaces, and entire communities, whether or not they ever talk about it openly.
The hopeful part of this theme is just as important as the somber part. Overdose is preventable. We already know a lot of what works: timely access to treatment, naloxone in more hands, and care that meets people without judgment. The gap isn't knowledge. It's rich.
Ahead of August 31, we put together a short guide covering what to know, what to watch for, and how to act if you're ever in a position to help someone. You don't need a medical background to save a life. You just need the right information. Click here to download.
