Given the stigma faced my moms who struggle with addiction, we’re especially honored — and proud — that Kimberly, an Ophelia patient, wanted to open up about her story. “I feel like there's a lot of judgment against mothers, because if you're an addict, you must be a bad mom or you don't care about your kids,” says Kim. “That's an absolute lie. I love my children. I care about them more than anything in the world.” What happens when we replace stigma with treatment that allows moms to get the help they need? Mothers and their children receive the benefits. “I am looking forward to just living my life and achieving all of my goals and sending my kids to college and watching them grow… to being a good mom.”
